It is a tiny, three-letter word. But it might be the most powerful tool in your portfolio.
"Yet."
As a simple word, it acts as a conjunction.
As a mindset, it opens up infinite possibilities.
We often trap ourselves in the binary of "Can" or "Cannot."
- "I can't understand these market movements."
- "I can't build a legacy for my children."
- "I can't execute this strategy."
The moment you add that single syllable—"Yet"—the narrative changes entirely.
"I can't do this... yet."
In my years advising clients at Syfe, and perhaps even more so in my years as a father, I’ve realized that the difference between a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset isn't usually raw talent.
The needle mover is simply the timeline you give yourself.
The "trigger" for growth is realizing that struggle is not a stop sign. It is merely part of the learning curve.
When we remove "yet" from our vocabulary, we are deciding that our current capabilities are our maximum potential.
When we add it back in, we acknowledge that we are a work in progress.
Whether you are looking at a complex investment portfolio that intimidates you, or watching your child struggle to tie their shoelaces:
The pivot point is patience. The strategy is persistence.
Don't bet against your future self. You just haven't got there yet.
As the concept of the "Power of Yet" suggests:
"The word 'yet' implies that there is a future, and that future is in your hands."
PS: My eldest son added that there's a song "Power of Yet!"
<<"I don't know how to do this (yet!) I may not have the answer (yet!)"
"But I'll never say never, I can always get better. That's something I won't forget.">>
